Adventures in Dog Sitting - Meet Murphy!

If you've read my posts about Kona, Satan's Puppy, or Aspen, the adorable pain in the butt, then you probably already know how I feel about puppies.  Like the sharks at the aquarium, I like them best at a distance.  Not in my home.

But this weekend I watched Murphy and, for a moment, I doubted myself.

I looooove my crate.  And being good!

Miss Murphy is only 4 months old, but she is sweet and mellow and wants nothing more than to snuggle up and give kisses.  At first, Skye didn't believe me, and assumed her typical "hide from puppy" position.

Shhhh- I'm hiding!

But soon even Skye couldn't deny that this puppy wasn't like the others- she was almost normal!

Yes I will sit and look at the camera for you,

...almost.  Murphy has only one tiny little problem.

A foot fetish.

Murphy firmly believes that shoes are toys, only better.  She will pick up a shoe and bring it over for you to throw for her.  She'll pick up a shoe and hide it in her crate for later.  She even put a shoe in the toy box!  After only 10 minutes in the house, she had scattered shoes everywhere- like a shoe-elf!

I spent a lot of time over the next day and a half convincing Murph that picking a toy leads to fun and games, and picking a shoe lands you in the crate for a full minute.  She was much better by the time I brought her home again, but it was borderline obsessive.  Darn puppy.

Soooooo... shoes are bad?

Murphy may be staying with us again in the near future, so stay tuned!

On a more serious note, you have hopefully learned of the tragedy experienced by the Houston Pittie Pack.  While there is no amount of money in the world that can replace the 5 beautiful pups lost in the fire, or ease the grief of those who survived, there is a chip in account up and running to help Sandra and her family in this time of need.  Please consider donating any amount- we can't do much, but we can make sure that this holiday season Sandra has one less burden to bear.

You can find the chip in here- or use the widget on the sidebar of the blog.  Thanks!

  2. I prefer puppies from a distance also! Our rescue does lots of E-list rescues of puppies. So I get to hold and cuddle them and get my fix without bringing one home. It's perfect :)

  3. Puppies are precious but I do agree with you that most of them channel a little bit of Satan. Fortunately by age 2 or 3--or 5--most of them seem to be exorcised. But right now, I wonder every day whether its normal for a puppy's motion and energy and neediness and hunger to be so, bloody, CONSTANT!?
