I spent every summer of my life in Alton Bay at our cottage swimming, getting lost in the woods, and going to camp. My first job ever was as a waitress at the local dining hall- let's all be glad I didn't pick that as a career!
On Easter of 2009 a fire started that destroyed 44 of the cottages in the conference center- the biggest fire in 40 years in the region. Our cottage was the last one to burn.
It was really sad to drive by and not have the familiar sight of Tip Top cottage on the hill- there is a huge open space where all our friends and neighbors used to be.
Luckily, that was the low point or the day. Mt Major is a short hike, which is great since I never actually hike on mountains. It's kinda steep... and icy!
Parker and Skye were feeling especially photogenic- you can see all their pictures on our Facebook page!
A few highlights of the day:
We're almost at the top- don't look down! |
I feel much safer in this little house... |
Woah- I'm looking down! |
And my favorite of the trip:
A pit bull on top of the world. |
It looks so beautiful! I have GOT to get up to NH!
