Finding My Style

I know, I know- I can't believe how long it has been since you've been given the gift of my presence on this blog!  Sure, pit bulls are in the title, but Steven Spielberg doesn't put his name in the titles of his movies either!

I was thinking to myself recently that I am one handsome devil.  I mean, really, really handsome.  But this was not without effort!  It has taken a long time for me to find my style and accept the personal hygiene routine necessary to look this fantastic.  As a young pup I was allowed to get dirty, but no one ever taught me how to clean up after a day of manly outdoor activity.

That led to the very embarrassing removal of all my hair.  I can't even tell you how many times I was called a poodle in the few months it took to regrow my snowy locks.  I have to say, that was a low point for me.  Then, like many teenage boys, I grew very attached to my hair.  I didn't want it to be cut off again, so I went for a fluffier look.

However, this too was a phase.  It's not exactly attractive to pick up leaves and twigs from the forest and have birds nesting in your back hair.  The problem was, I did not want anything to do with the scary grooming lady.  Why does she have to touch my feet? My nails like to grow.  And that dryer?  No thank you!  But Mommy kept bringing me back and the grooming lady kept doing her thing.

In between torture sessions groomings, Mommy would help coach me at home.  She kept playing with my feet and rewarding me for not fussing.  She fiddled with my ear hair (how embarrassing) when we snuggled on the couch.  It made it a little less scary when I'm with the grooming lady, who told me I was improving with each visit!

Sure, I still cry like a baby when I'm drying, but it's really just as a general protest now instead of the panic attack I used to have.  Please learn from my mistakes fellow fluffers- dirty dogs just don't make it as far in life.  Especially with the ladies.

Which look is your favorite?

  1. Franklin could've written this post! I love him (and Parker) most mid-cycle. Just on the edge of shaggy, but not over the line. They are both very handsome little gentlemen!

  2. He is adorable!! My shih tzu used to be such a NON FAN of the dryers at the groomers that I started bathing and blow drying him at home the night before his appointments. Then he only had to get shaved at the groomers-it cost less and took less time. I did have to tackle the bath part-but I could trap him in the bathroom easily enough and make sure he got dried by the warm, not as loud, blowdryer instead of the fan.

  4. My favorite is the one where you and your sister have matching smiles!

We messed with Badger's paws while we gave him belly rubs (his favorite thing!), so he doesn't really mind nail clippings. Have yet to do the same with Mushroom, who doesn't really like belly rubs either.

  5. Parker, we think you're adorable in ALL your various looks! But you're right - cleaner is definitely better! No one likes to snuggle a dirty dog!

  8. I love the fluffy pix on the bottom right side of the photo montage. Of course, I wouldn't kick Parker out of my bed no matter what his coat looked like. :)

  9. Parker pictures always make me giggle, he's such a funny little pup! A dog like Parker wouldn't normally turn my head, but it must be his confidence in his style that makes me notice. =) I'm a big fan of the meek little shaved picture as well as the full on fluff.
