A Day at the Beach

In my last post I included some pictures from our trip to the beach.  We don't go as often as I'd like since you have to catch low tide, but when we go it's a blast!

First I had to plead my case to Parker, who was looking forward to sleeping in.

Once I dragged their complaining butts to the beach and took out Skye's new squeaky football, there was a big boost in the motivation department.

The only downside was a group to people with 4-5 dogs who actively avoided me the entire time.  Since Parker and Skye play at work all the time, I don't care as much about socializing them when we go on adventures.  They meet dogs, we move on.  Sometimes my dogs are too intense with their greetings anyway, which we're working on, but I don't mind it if we don't come across dogs all that often.

This was different in that each time we moved closer to where they were standing, one woman would point and they would move farther down the beach.  When we did have to pass each other I leashed Parker and Skye and called out a good morning while they frantically grabbed at their dogs to keep them from running over.

Really, it doesn't bother me all that much, but I find it interesting the behaviors human beings are willing to exhibit without realizing how rude or off putting they appear.  Still, I'd say we had a great time!

Parker always finds that his intelligence is being insulted when he has to sit next to Skye for pictures.  Not sure why...

So folks- what is your go-to spot for some special fun times with your pups?

  1. looks like you guys had a really fab time! i love taking stormy to the beach too, but we dont have one near us so we go for holidays to the beach with him and have the best dog holidays ever, nothing matters but him having fun until he is totally pooped and sleeps the rest of the evening :)
who cares about those wierdos avoiding you from the sounds of it they were definately not worth knowing anyway.
once i was on the beach with my last dog deefa and he had gold eyes and one woman saw him and screamed with fear, i think that was a bit much, some people are so wierd LOL!!!

  2. That top picture of Parker is adorable! And seeing your duo just makes me smile. Everyone should have both a pittie and a little shagmuffin.

  3. You guys are two amazing looking dogs. Glad you had fun in the beach, even if there was that weird human holding onto her dogs:)

  4. Beaches are so much fun! We don't get out to the Pacific as much as I'd like to.

I'm going to give that weirdo the benefit of the doubt and assume that one or more of her dogs wasn't cool with meeting other dogs and that's why she was acting so weird. I had to be that person when Maggie was in her "I like to attack small dogs" phase. I'm so glad those days are over!!

  5. Looks like they had a blast!

I have to say, I've probably been that weird person at the beach before. While my two are both dog friendly, I have gone to the beach with a friend of mine's dog who just LOVED the beach trips, but was extremely dog aggressive. Which meant that I spent a decent amount of time moving away from other people with dogs. Luckily our beaches are pretty sparse on people, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to let him off leash at all, and what fun is it being on leash at the beach?

  6. lucky beach-bums:) though a huge ocean might scare my two to death ~ they do NOT care for water and we live right next to a lake. Any walk in the woods is good enough for my dogs...as long as there are squirrels and lots of smells.

  8. Sometimes humans are so dumb. Especially if they're not properly trained.

I love the look on Parkers face in the last picture. He may be thinkging of the phrase that I have on a button on my blog, "If it's not a schnazer, it's just a dog", BOL!

  10. I'll admit I haven't taken the dogs any special places recently because I've been so busy with school. Hopefully soon though!

  12. What a beautiful day! I know how that feels; people should realize when they're exhibiting offensive prejudices but they just don't, not with dogs.

  14. I love the pictures of the beach play!

And the weird behavior would have gotten on my nerves too. I think it should have been obvious eventually that your dogs were playful and friendly and not a threat to her. I guess fear isn't rational, though.

  15. Yeah, the condition of the tide should be considered if you want a fun and safe day at the beach. Sometimes, it’s a hindrance though. Ha-ha! Based on the shots, I noticed it has a fairly wide shore, in which the dogs thoroughly took advantage of. :D When was your next plan?
