Little Puppies, Big World

The Pez is still with us.  I'm not sure about you, but I'm shocked.  We're approaching the 4 week mark here, and this little guy has only had 3 people interested in him!  The problem is, these people were all looking for a lap dog or a mellow house dog.

However, Pez is a terrier.  He runs hard, plays rough, and doesn't stop until the end of the day.  Like Parker, he doesn't want to cuddle or be picked up by everyone he meets.  The more you try to coax him over for some love, the less he wants to do with you.  Get his ball or a tug toy and he's all yours, but a lap dog he is not.

Terriers.  How I love and hate you.

So we continue to search for Pez's forever home.  Other than one or two moments of defiance, he has been great off leash at the park and in the woods.  He is finally officially house trained, making him the biggest challenge I've ever had in that department.  Also, he has a strange affection for Diego the dog-aggressive Frenchie, which has been a big help on our weekly socialization walks.  Yesterday he even jumped on Diego to get him to play.  Diego didn't play, but he also didn't show any aggression.

Pez is an all around fun pup to have at the house.  He can get Parker to snuggle in the car, has helped Skye improve her toy-sharing abilities, and made me consider adding him as my third dog.  I'm still up in the air about it, but he is the best kind of small dog.  He just needs an owner who wants all the action of a pit bull in a tiny scruffy package!

Oh, and the bonus?  He is so awkwardly proportioned that whenever he isn't running around like a maniac, I get a good laugh at his tiny little legs.

  5. Tess is just like that. She doesn't want to be cuddled, she wants you to play tug with her or throw her ball. Schultz is our resident cuddle bear.

  8. That photo of Pez and Diego is hilarious. You can tell Pez is like "Like me! I like you! Like ME!!" and Diego's all, "You are so annoying." Too funny! Good luck with everything :)

  9. I say it's great that you've had people looking for a small dog who didn't take Pez home. So many people confuse small size with low energy. A lazy St. Bernard might be a better bit than an active terrier.

So is this going to be a foster fail? :)
