Training Time

Kona had the opportunity to participate in a little stay practice with the gang while she stayed with us.

I love doing group stays with the dogs for a few reasons.

Number 1- it makes for great pictures!

Number 2- It helps them calm down.  With 4 young and rambunctious pups around, it was easy for them to get worked up.  It seemed like the more they ran around, the crazier they got.  So each play session ended with a quick sit or down stay practice to help everyone transition into "quiet time."  I used to do this with Skye in the evening during our first few months together, when she would work herself into such a frenzy that I was ready to pull my hair out every single night.  It worked then, and it works now.  Thank God.

  2. Love the last one where the bench behind Kona is an optical illusion of being right above her head - as if she's saying, 'see, there's my halo, I've been an angel all along!' :)

  3. I adore the sit-stay and the down-stay! It really does help to calm the pups down! Although, I need to start working on them more on walks because often Turk will get so distracted by all the smells, rogue squirrels, etc. that he completely forgets his manners...

  4. What a nice family. Your mom is great because she teaches you hot to stay:)

  6. Down stya is the command that changed my life with the crazy Miss M. Though we learned everything so long ago, I have forgotten how to teach it now that we have the new foster pup.

  9. Stay! Never easy with bouncy dogs. Dexter seems able to move through the grass without ever leaving his sit position. Spooky. Of course once Mango is down, stay is redundant.

    P.S. Lovely photos.
